Birthday Theme: A Harry Potter Birthday Bash

Does your child just love Harry Potter? If he or she does, then a Harry Potter birthday party is a great idea for your child's next birthday. This is a fun idea that can be done in a number of different ways. For example, you can have a Hogwarts style banquet for your child and his or her friends or you can invite them to a day of classes at Hogwarts.

For your invitations, you can buy some paper that looks like parchment, and you can print on them with a fancy script font that looks like handwriting. You can even print the Hogwarts logo on the pages. Tell them when and where your party will be held, and you can even tell them to dress like their favorite Harry Potter character. When your guests arrive, you can sort them into the Hogwarts houses. All you have to do is put the house names, Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff, on pieces of paper and let them draw the names out of the Sorting Hat.

If you are planning a Harry Potter banquet, you need some long tables and table clothes to cover them. If you have enough room and enough people, you can make a table for each of the four houses. You can decorate the tables with printouts of the house symbols and with the house colors. You can either cook for your guests or you can cater. It doesn't really matter what kind of food you decide to have, but you want it to be fit for a banquet. You can do a three or four course meal and serve a salad, an appetizer, a main course, and a dessert, which can be the cake. After dinner you can play Hogwarts trivia games, such as Harry Potter Trivial Pursuit or Scene It. You can also make your own trivia questions, and the house teams can play against each other.

If you are planning to have a day of Hogwarts classes, you can decorate the rooms in your house like the different classes that Harry Potter takes like Herbology, Potions and Transfiguration. For the Herbology class, each guest can plant their own plant. You can buy herb or flower seedlings, and the kids can plant them then take them home at the end of the party. For Potions, your guests can make Italian sodas. You take some flavored syrup, club soda, ice, and cream. Have your guests fill their glasses with ice, add about an inch or so of syrup, fill the rest of the glass with club soda, and leave a bit of room for some cream at top. Once they have added all the ingredients, they will need to mix the ingredients, and then they will have their own drink. If you use butterscotch syrup, you can call these drinks Butter Beer just like in the books. In Transfiguration, where Hogwarts students transform one object into another, you can have your guests make simple origami creatures, transforming the paper into something new.
