It is a great party theme because you can have pirate themed games, pirate costumes, pirate music, and pirate decorations. You can buy pirate paper plates, pirate napkins and cups, and the possibilities are nearly limitless. Don’t forget to welcome your guests to the secret pirate island (your house).

 

What is a birthday party without a birthday cake? For a pirate themed party, you must have a pirate themed cake. You have a number of options when it comes to creating or buying a pirate cake. The easiest way to do this is to make a simple sheet cake or round cake and decorate the top of it. You can decorate with icing by drawing a pirate ship or a skull and crossbones. You can also buy figurines like a plastic pirate ship, and you can place is on a blue iced cake so that your pirate ship is sailing across the open ocean. You can take some brown sugar and make an island.

 

Another option is to take a sheet cake and ice it to look like a treasure chest. Since a treasure chest is rectangular, all you have to do is take some brown and black icing and make the cake look like a wooden chest. You can decorate around the cake with gold coins, like the ones you use during Mardi Gras. You can even use the beads as a party favor, and they can be the pirates’ “loot.” You can also try to make a cake in the shape of a skull and crossbones.

 

Sometimes it can be easier to buy a cake rather than try to make one, and most local bakeries and supermarkets will make pirate themed cakes. You can also make a lot of cupcakes instead of making a cake. You can decorate the cupcakes with chocolate coins or little pirate flags. You can also use edible ink to transfer a photo to the surface of your cake. For example, you can use a photo of your child dressed up as a pirate to decorate the cake.
