First, if you’re throwing your own party, you need to get all the food-related supplies because what’s a birthday party without cake?

 

You’ve probably already got the basics, but you should remember that you’ll need plates, utensils, napkins and cups. You generally want to get disposable items because this will make your clean up much easier. This way you can also get plates, napkins and cups that match, which are always fun if you’re doing a themed party.

 

You might want to purchase plastic plates (instead of papers ones) if you are planning to serve ice cream at your party because they will stand up better to the wet, melting ice cream. And, don’t forget the cake! You should also remember to buy candles if you want them and find a lighter or matches. A large knife and a cake server are also useful supplies to have on hand.

 

In addition to food serving items, you will want to buy decorations like balloons, banners or streamers. Of course, you have a lot of leeway with decorations, and you don’t have to remember a certain list of things.

 

Some good things to have on hand during the party are extra trash bags and paper towels. It’s also a good idea to know where a pair of scissors is located, just in case you have problems opening a stubborn present. Even though you might think that it’s weird to have a first aid kit at a party, accidents do happen, especially when you have a houseful of kids.
